Election Time…!

February 27th 2008 by Sukebe Oyaji in Uncategorized 1

Sukebe is back…! Since the elections are near, why not a poem about it?

.

Tiap tiap hari

Makan kari

Tengok ekononomi

Cukup sakit hati

.

Tarak bini

Pun tarak isteri

Tengok menteri

Campak dia masuk perigi

.
Jangan membuta tuli

Dengan lu punya undi

Semua kita punya parti

Tak boleh dipercayai
.

Itu budak barisan nasional

Loncong cukup nakal

Ada yang kurang akal

Selalu buat kerja tak halal
.
Ada budak celaka

Panggil Cina balik Cina

Kalau lu tak suka

Lu keluar dari Malaysia
.
Ada yang fikiran kotor

Cakap pasal tiap-tiap bulan bocor

Ini percakapan cukup bodoh

Hentam dia dengan kaca punya botol
.

Itu mintri Samy

Projek screw up sana sini

Tol naik tak henti henti

Gua sekarang tarak duit beli roti
.
Itu angkasawan

Cukup buat kerja bukan bukan

Bawak roti canai dan belacan

Belanja orang Russia makan
.
Gua bukan parti pembangkang

Tapi kerajaan sekarang

Buat gua cukup pantang

Jadi kita pakai undi untuk menentang

3 fellas, 3 rooms, 3 worlds, but in 1 house

January 19th 2008 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Uncategorized 2

I’m living in a rented house with a former coursemate and a junior. All of us have a room for ourselves, but we are all in our own worlds, most of the time.

1) The first guy…lets call him J. Not J for Jolin though. ‘He’ is a guy. J spends most of his free time with his computer games, and also girlfriend. He is currently teaching at a school due to too much stress from his previous engineer job.

Since his computer is in the living room, he spends most of his time there.

2) The second fella is Sukebe. He just bought a ‘coffin’ by the brand of Kawai and placed it strategically inside his room(after much debate and threats by housemates actually). He spends most of his time playing his self proclaimed ‘nice’ compositions and also some truly nice pieces by renowned musicians. When he starts playing, normally, my door will be closed.

Sukebe spends most of the time in his room, sometimes playing online poker. Gonna be a true pro soon i guess.

 .

3) Me, on the other hand, spends most of my time with my computer…and if not, sleeping.  These two activities take up majority of my time. Time for work canNOT be considered as my top two main activities. Therefore, if you can calculate, I spend quite a considerable amount of time in front of the computer while at work too.

.

The best thing about three of us happens in the morning. J wakes up and prepares himself, then leaves for work/school. And then, without being able to see J, I wake up, prepare and leave for work…Finally, Sukebe wakes up and discovers himself also alone in the house.

.

Homecoming is also really scattered. Some would have their OTs, some sports and also some unscheduled events. Therefore we normally have dinners by our own. If we get to meet, it’s when everyone suddenly  sits in front of the TV. That is also if there is anything of common interest being broadcasted. But this rarely happens as I spend a total of less than 5 hours a week in front of the TV. Kinda hard to find for a young guy ya.

Anyway, that’s how 3 worlds can exist under one small roof. Can you beat this?

$2 Xmas Tree

xmas tree

What do you think of this leaf-less tree? Would you pay $2 for this?

Can You Get a Christmas Tree n Decorations for only $2?

December 23rd 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Uncategorized 0

I know it sounds crazy… But we’ve just done it!

.

Together with Sukebe we started working on the ‘tree’ at 8pm, finished at about 10. In the process, alot of recycled items were used (including the tree), therefore, it’s really cheap.

.

And while it may not look like a christmas tree…it certainly feels like one.  About $2 or RM 7 was spent in the process. RM 5 went to the christmas lights and another RM2 went to the must have decorations.

.

My camera is not with me at this time, I guess I’ll have to post the tree up for comments in the next few days.  Meantime, I have just taken my bath, and feeling quite happy with what we’ve done  ;-)

.

Oh ya, wishing everyone reading this a Merry Christmas and a Hoppy New Year!

Directions

December 18th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Uncategorized 8

This weekend was quite a busy one for me as some of my family members decided to come over for holiday. It was mainly a photography trip. Two enthusiasts; my dad and uncle had specially travelled from KL to Johore, to get into Singapore for some photo shooting of the night lightings.

Interesting! I guess passion is what drives many people. And with passion, distance don’t seem far, it’s only made to be perceived as far by our thoughts.

We went in car to two places; namely the Sentosa Island and the ever popular Orchard Road. On the way there, we had to make many U-turns as the directions were not really clear. We had a map in hand, but at places where exits ought to be seen, it was not there. We would overshoot quite a distance, and upon passing by some more recognizable places, we would have known that it’s time to make a U-turn.

Later on, I realized what the problem was. In Malaysia, or say, Kuala Lumpur in particular, if you were to drive from any location to Petaling Jaya, the direction to Petaling Jaya would be clearly shown even when you are one hour’s drive away.

It is altogether a different case in Singapore. You have to know how the roads link. In other words, if you are getting from A to D, you must know what are roads B and C which links the two locations. In the case of Orchard Road, there was not a single sign of ‘Orchard Road’ until we reached the road and saw the street board itself.

Of course, the lighting on that street was a good indication as well. This experience shows that if you were to drive in Singapore, you will need a very good co-driver, with a magnifying glass to see which is the road to access next.

Anyway, I must say that eventhough we arrived at Orchard Road at 10pm, it was well worth it. I’m still in the process of getting the photos from the cameras. Will upload them for your viewing pleasure, hopefully before Christmas.

Some food for thought here:- If your life is a journey to one particular destination, would you prefer to have the direction shown far beforehand or you would like to discover surprises along the way?

Business Lunches

December 14th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Stupid Job 0

Does it happen? All the time… It’s just another variation of business over golf or over a drink.

.

In fact, business lunches are more common than any other forms of entertainment. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, many restaurants are ’specially priced’ for lunch to discourage normal public to appear, thus making it conducive for business talks.

.

Time is also a factor why lunches are highly preferred. Some meetings are held in the morning, and extends until near to noon(either by chance or deliberately). And when time comes for lunch, it’s only natural to invite/be invited for lunch. Lunch is also a good time to relax after half a day of ‘hectic’ schedule.

.

Well, another good question is: - Can new deals be sealed over lunch?

.

In the case of lunch and only lunch, the answer could just be NO and some occasional YESes. But in the case of lunch as a supporting ‘gift/bribe’ after a good presentation or meeting, the answer will be mostly YESes.

.

It also depends upon who is invited for lunch. If it’s the final decision maker, chances of YES is high. If he/she is just a supporting staff, then possibly they will go back with a good impression of you, and later convince their bosses…. after some reminders normally.

.

Supporting staffs are easier to invite, because they know that they have no final say and they know you know this fact as well. Therefore, they are not pressured to commit anything. This is the type of people I particularly like to invite for lunch, if the objective is merely helping the company spend some money. ;-) I also tend to be more relaxed with this group of people.

.

And if closing sales is crucial, then decision maker has to be invited as far as possible.

.

Well, there you have it…through experience, the different ways and considerations on why, who and how business over lunch is done. By the way, have you  invited/be en  invited for any business lunch?  Anything special to share?

Managing Dreams

December 13th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Uncategorized 4

Do you have dreams?

.

I do…they’re rather big in fact. I have been working towards achieving them for over a year now. Kinda tired but as long as I don’t give up, I believe one day they will come true.

.

What should you do with your dreams? Well, I attended some classes and courses by a few self development experts; one of them actually mentioned that there are always ways to go about organizing or dealing with dreams.

.

The most important thing is not to spread the news too fast and too far. There are just so many dream stealers out there. Dream stealers here refer to people who either take your idea, or spread it to too many people, for not really good reasons.

.

There are also dream killers whom you should beware of. Especially if you have dreams which are wild and big, keep it to yourself as much as possible. Some people just can’t stand seeing yourself more successful than themselves. They may give you alot of ‘good’ reasons why you shouldn’t waste your time working on the ‘impossible’ dreams.

.

There is one exception to this though. You can and should share your dreams with those who have done something better or even similar to what you’re trying to attempt. You will have to select this person/group of person very carefully though. You may even actively seek for this group of people, if you have not had any contacts yet. If they can really be of help, share your dreams with them by all means.

.

By sharing your dreams with the right person/s, you can in fact accelerate growth and solve problems faster. It’s just a journey of overcoming obstacles and reaching your destination by the end of it, anyway. Overcoming problems with a group of friends who had been there, done that, it will be very much easier. You will also be more motivated to move ahead.

.

Oh ya…It’s also very important to share your dreams with your closest family members or partner. They should be able to give you a boost when things are not going very right.

.

I would also like to share with you something called the ‘dream catcher’. Most people easily get distracted whenever new ideas come to mind. They start working on project A and then realize that there’s another project which may give better results. They stop the project altogether, and start Project B. The same thing may happen over and over again, and in the end, nothing really significant gets done. Yeah, you gain lots of experience, but you’ll never get there. This scenario happens to me all the time, but now I learned a new way to overcome it.

.

So, what is ‘dream catcher’ really? Well, it could be just a piece of paper or a booklet, where you write down your craziest ideas. Make sure it follows you wherever you go. If it’s too much of a hassle, just write the ideas down anywhere and transfer them to the booklet or anything it might be, when you get the chance. This way, your ideas will not be forgotten, and whenever you need to start a new project or target, you’ll not be cracking your head looking for ideas. You’ll know where to look for them.

.

Well, hope this will help you organize your dreams just a little bit. Let me know if you have other methods to share. Thanks for dropping by. See you again tomorrow.

I’m back!

December 12th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Announcements 1

Hi guys!

 .

I really need to apologize for not updating this blog for so long. I feel guilty at times, but many things had happened and held me back from sitting down and chatting with you again.Anyway, it was really encouraging too see some readers, especially piki, sending me emails asking me what happened. She went to the extend of encouraging me to continue blogging. Thanks, piki!

Well, what a surprise it must have been, seeing more than a thousand comments waiting to be moderated. But mostly if not ALL are spam comments. Anyway, its interesting and encouraging though. It’s nice to see robots coming to visit here often. ;-) Wharrt caan iii duu forr uu..reoubutz?

So, what was I busy with?

Good question. Recently, I took up a challenge together with a close friend, a twenty days challenge. Its very much an online project, but it took me way more than 20 days. And the worse part is, by now, its still very much not completed. Will reveal the details in some other posts, at some other time.

What happened to Sukebe?

Sukebe fired his boss and went banging koks while waiting for the next job to start. He has just started on Monday, but coming home later than the previous job, sometimes arriving home at 10pm. According to him, he has not been working after office hours, so what has he been up to? More pretty chicks this time? Who knows.

Anyway, the Post Banging Koks Interview with him:-

“Sukebe, any nice places you visited there?”

“Erm…night markets, temples, shopping centres, and enjoyed some tom yum lor”

“Any chance to visit the aquarium?”

“The tour was with aunties, what do you expect???”

“yeah, hard to imagine if some aunties wanted to display themselves there…what bout shows, any shows you saw?

“Tiger show lor….but the real tigers- at the zoo”

“You are literally throwing money into the jamban hole as you will have to visit the place again. You missed out those important attractions.Go bang your head against the wall la!”

IMHO, its a lousy trip, better to sit at home and watch TV.

Well, this is just a short post, will be posting further updates soon.

Thanks for re-visiting! Welcome back!

Sleeping Later and Later

October 7th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in Uncategorized 0

Its 1.52 am now….and I’m writing this post.

.

I developed this habit of sleeping late recently, after a new housemate moved in. He sleeps normally at about 1 to 2 am daily. I slowly followed his style.

.

I’m not totally a duplicate of him, because I’m backed up with a number of supplements and also I do have the luxury of sleeping for about an hour before dinner every day. Therefore, eventhough I sleep late, I will not be totally drained out the next day.
.
Some of you may ask, the reason for sleeping late? I’m currently in the middle of a project. Will get it done ASAP, then carry on with others…..Which means, looks like its gonna be part of my life, not to be changed in this short period of time. Good or bad? Duno.

.

Well, OK, heading off to bed now. To be continued some other days.
