Directions
December 18th 2007 by Prof. Emeritus Goreng in UncategorizedThis weekend was quite a busy one for me as some of my family members decided to come over for holiday. It was mainly a photography trip. Two enthusiasts; my dad and uncle had specially travelled from KL to Johore, to get into Singapore for some photo shooting of the night lightings.
.
Interesting! I guess passion is what drives many people. And with passion, distance don’t seem far, it’s only made to be perceived as far by our thoughts.
.
We went in car to two places; namely the Sentosa Island and the ever popular Orchard Road. On the way there, we had to make many U-turns as the directions were not really clear. We had a map in hand, but at places where exits ought to be seen, it was not there. We would overshoot quite a distance, and upon passing by some more recognizable places, we would have known that it’s time to make a U-turn.
.
Later on, I realized what the problem was. In Malaysia, or say, Kuala Lumpur in particular, if you were to drive from any location to Petaling Jaya, the direction to Petaling Jaya would be clearly shown even when you are one hour’s drive away.
.
It is altogether a different case in Singapore. You have to know how the roads link. In other words, if you are getting from A to D, you must know what are roads B and C which links the two locations. In the case of Orchard Road, there was not a single sign of ‘Orchard Road’ until we reached the road and saw the street board itself.
.
Of course, the lighting on that street was a good indication as well. This experience shows that if you were to drive in Singapore, you will need a very good co-driver, with a magnifying glass to see which is the road to access next.
.
Anyway, I must say that eventhough we arrived at Orchard Road at 10pm, it was well worth it. I’m still in the process of getting the photos from the cameras. Will upload them for your viewing pleasure, hopefully before Christmas.
.
Some food for thought here:- If your life is a journey to one particular destination, would you prefer to have the direction shown far beforehand or you would like to discover surprises along the way?

photografi is in my blood. Part of this year’s resolution is to start a good SLR system. anyway, digital allows for taking of photos just like using a machine gun. With unlimited reloads. Provided you have space in your pocket for some biscuit size cards. hehe.
Anyway, your pictures are great! Heavily sensored and edited ya? ;P
